The story behind the song "Light up the Way" the FIRST SONG on our NEW album SAY YES TO LIFE.
This song was birthed during a difficult time where I was at a fork in the road, pulled in two different directions. I could only choose one path for my soul's evolution. One path was more pure, but more arduous, more uncertain, and would push me to the depths of my courage and heights of growth. The other was shrouded by my egoic desires, and promised glory, ease, and fame. Now this of course seems like an easy decision from an outside vantage point, but as we all know, when we are deep in the throes of confusion it's difficult to see with full clarity. And so this song was birthed. I called upon Jah to light up the way so that I could see clearly through the darkness. Jah is a shortened version of one of the names of god from the Hebraic tradition, Yahweh. Jah is also used by Rastafari as the name of god. I see Jah as the light of the one. Both accessible inside and outside. The source of all creation. The light of all creation. Birthing, maintaining, and destroying universes. Beyond description, and yet the one with many names, many faces. And I believe we all have this light inside of us. We all have direct access to Jah. And as I called on the light, the light came. And with the light comes clear vision. I could see with full awareness what path would illuminate my soul into its highest evolution. I chose the path of purity. And it has been arduous. It has been uncertain. It has pushed me to the depths of courage and brought me to the heights of growth. It is the path of the warrior guided by the golden sun. And it is the path that brought this album into existence. And so there was no more perfect song to begin the album with than this one. May we always remember that the light is within. That we have all the answers inside of us. That what we seek is seeking us. And may we courageously forge this path of light so that we can illuminate all of creation with our purity. Jah!
